Now, if you are currently somewhere you don't want to be....maybe at your work desk perhaps...I get that an enthusiastic "Happy Monday!" is probably like nails on a chalkboard....
And maybe it's the extra Easter candy still in my system or maybe it's simply because the baby boy growing inside has decided to share some energy today....
But boy oh boy am I so ready for this week!
This morning I was doing a little bit of journaling.....this pregnancy is definitely unpredictable and I woke up a tad bit cranky (sorry honey!). Some days pregnancy blues will show up out of nowhere and for no reason....and journaling is a major way I turn things around.
Sooo anywho...this morning I decided to journal on Fear. I know that there are some fears that are really wrecking havoc in my brain at the moment and I knew that it was time to shine the spotlight on them.
To say I was surprised is a bit of an understatement.....
Even though I have done this journal exercise before, it never ceases to amaze me what comes up whenever I return to it.
Since the insights knocked my socks off this morning, I thought I'd share this exercise with you all. Even if journaling isn't your thing, you can take two minutes at your desk or standing at your countertop with a notepad and pen to do this. I promise what you see will make it sooo worth your time!
Because fear is like when you keep ignoring the warning icon going off in your car....it keeps dinging and annoying the heck out of you until finally, your car breaks down and you end up with a massive auto repair bill....NOT.FUN.
And sometimes your car doesn't even break down...but it's definitely not performing at full capacity...and who wants that?!
So what do you say? Why not give this quick exercise a try and see what comes up for you?
Ok awesome! I knew you would be game!
First just grab your journal, a notepad or a piece of paper and a pen to write with.
Next, write out the following phrase and finish it with whatever thought(s) come to mind. Do it at least 10 times. Don't think about it too much...just finish each statement with whatever first pops into your head.
Phrases to write: "If I had no fear, then I would _____________"
"If I wasn't afraid, then I would ____________"
When you sit down and do this exercise, it can be really surprising what pops up. Frankly, I'm always a bit surprised but I am also so grateful because it highlights exactly where fear is holding me back.
I see fear holding people back day in and day out....and ultimately listening to that fear and allowing it to win is a CHOICE.
This exercise will make you aware of the fears...but you must CHOOSE to do something about them. Ultimately, we can make all the excuses in the world about how are fears are valid OR we can choose to see all the reasons why our fears are not valid and shouldn't continue to hold us back.
The first step is recognizing the fear and this exercise will help you do that. I know it can be tough to face a fear...but what's worse....facing a fear or always wondering "what if"?
Frankly, the thought of years down the road wondering "what if" I had just done ____ or tried ____ is a heck of a lot more frightening to me than facing my fear head on today.
Regret is something no one wants present in their mind....so see what comes up for you with this exercise and then choose to no longer let that fear or fears hold you back anymore.
Your time is NOW. You can choose differently....things can be better.....you can have what it is that you want....
However you must be willing to take that leap of faith...face that fear....and no longer let the fears hold you back from living your true potential.
