Today marks the end of my 19th week of pregnancy and boy oh boy have things been interesting since our BabyMoon to San Francisco (you can read all about that here).
Well, last I left off, we had just gotten home after a rocky trip and unfortunately, the complications were just beginning.
The cramping has continued and this mama-to-be has been visiting the doctor quite a bit in the past week. Combine that with the anatomy ultrasound and baby has definitely been the topic of conversation in our household.
Through doctors orders, I have been on restricted activity, modified bed rest. This has been a HUGE challenge for me because I love my exercise and I hate feeling confined. All I can say is thank goodness for my incredible husband who has shouldered the extra load of housework while I rest. In addition, our neighbor has been fantastic in helping out by taking our active goldendoodle puppy for walks.
This has been a pretty tough time for me because not only does the bed rest SUCK but the depression is back. It is definitely from the hormonal changes going on in my body but combine the depression with painful cramping and bed rest and it can be a pretty tough one-two punch to recover from.
I've taken a step back from my business during this time to rest more and to reflect more on what directions I need to take for the health and happiness of both me and the baby. To say that there have been some tough conversations is an understatement....thank goodness for that wonderful husband of mine.
Lot's of cuddling with the puppies has gone down in the past week, in addition to, lots of journaling.
I did take action and started seeing a therapist again. I believe that therapy is incredibly powerful and seriously recommend everyone hire a coach or therapist of some kind! It is just such a wonderful thing to have this sacred space where you can let it all out and feel heard...I mean my hubby can only take so much afterall ;)
As of today, I'm still on modified bed rest but am hoping I get the all clear from the doctor to resume walking in the upcoming week. The cramping has declined and thus far, there haven't been any other indications of possible pre-term labor.
Food-wise, my cravings have been a bit all over the place. I've craved everything from BLT's to Mexican food to ice cream. This week, I've really done my best to tone down the sugar consumption (at least from desserts) and up my intake of healthy fats. Breakfast tends to be the same every morning but lunch and dinner has varied.
Just some of the things I've had for lunches and dinners:
- Kale, sunflower seed, cranberry & chicken salad with avocado and balsamic dressing.
- Chicken thighs with roasted vegetables
- Stir Fry
- Shrimp & veggie curry
- Ground turkey with bell peppers & mushrooms
All in all, things are starting to look up and I'm doing what I can to deal with the curveballs thrown. Fatigue has been a little up this week but I'm resting as requested.
Most of all, I'm grateful for all of the lessons this pregnancy is teaching me and definitely for the immense love and support I am receiving along the way.
Here's to Week 20 and (hopefully) no more modified bed rest!
